McCartney Named Women's Lacrosse Team MVP; Hahn, McKnelly and Smith Also Recognized

In addition to being named Team MVP, McCartney concluded her outstanding career in 2015 by earning First Team All-CAA and IWLCA All-America All-Region honors for the fourth straight year. Earlier this week, she was also named the first women's lacrosse player to be selected as the UD Alumni Association Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year since 1998.
McCartney led the Blue Hens to a Top 20 national ranking in 2015 as the squad posted a mark of 11-7 and advanced to the CAA Tournament semifinals. She guided UD in shots, game-winning goals, free position goals and draw controls while placing second in goals, points, groundballs and caused turnovers.
The two-time team captain started all 64 games of her career while finishing sixth all-time with 152 goals and ninth with 176 points. Additionally, McCartney set UD career records with 186 draw controls and 86 caused turnovers.
Other award honorees include seniors Allison Hahn (Vienna, Va./James Madison) and Kierstan Smith (Medford Lakes, N.J./Shawnee) in addition to sophomore Meghan McKnelly (Virginia Beach, Va./Cape Henry).
Hahn collected the UD Sportsmanship Award while Smith earned the Janet Smith Grit Award and McKnelly was named the Most Improved Player.
Hahn appeared in six games for the Hens this season and posted two goals with one draw control and one groundball.
Smith also started all 68 games during her four-year career at Delaware and registered eight groundballs and seven caused turnovers during her senior campaign.
McKnelly posted time in two games as the team's back-up goalie and allowed just one goal with two saves at Canisius and James Madison.
