Lafferty, a native of Marlton, N.J. (Cherokee HS), appeared in all but one tournament for the Blue Hens during his freshman season while posting a 76.59 average round. He tied for 10th place at the Cape Fear Intercollegiate with a six over par 79-71-71-222, and tied for 18th at the Binghamton Fall Invitational with a four over par 71-77-148.
Lafferty also tied for 24th place at the Villanova Wildcat Invitational, and concluded his season by tying for 25th place at the CAA Championship.
“Blaine put in countless hours on his own, outside of our regular practices, in the golf room during the winter and this spring at nearby White Clay Creek,” Keogh said. “He is the definition of a grinder.”
The Grinder Award is presented by former Blue Hens standout golfer and program contributor Charlie Horn. Charlie was a three-year letterwinner for head coach Scotty Duncan in 1971-75, and served as co-captain of the 1975 squad that placed second at the Eastern Championships.
Lafferty is the ninth Blue Hen to earn the Grinder Award, which was established following the 2006-07 season.
