Two Finals Appearances Highlight Delaware?s Performance on Day Two of Dad Vail Regatta

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – On the second day of racing at the Dad Vail Regatta Saturday, two boats from the University of Delaware rowing team qualified for the finals of their respective competitions.
The Novice Eights crew was the first Delaware boat to qualify for the finals of their event. Coxswain Alison Gibney helped the Hens post a time of 6:59.87, which was good for second place in the semifinal race and earned the crew a spot in the finals on Saturday afternoon.
In the finals, Delaware tallied a time of 7:05.26, which earned them a sixth place finish. Temple, George Mason, and Duquesne claimed the top three spots.
The second Blue Hen crew to notch a qualifying time for the finals was the Second Varsity Eights boat. Coxswain Jamie Noce led UD to a time of 6:54.90 and a third place finish in the race. In the finals, Delaware raced to of time of 7:06.20, which earned the boat a sixth place finish.
The Varsity Eights and Varsity Fours boats both rowed impressive races in their semifinal competitions, but were unable to qualify for the final competitions. Coxswain Hayley Diverio guided the Varsity Fours boat to a fourth place finish and a time of 7:43.53, while the Novice Eights crew rowed to a time of 6:45.60 and a fifth place finish.
Drexel was victorious in the men's races and in the overall competition, while Massachusetts and Bucknell tied for the women's championship.
Delaware will wrap up their spring schedule next Sunday as the Blue Hens compete in the Colonial Athletic Association Championships on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J.
