“It is always exciting to have student-athletes choose to pursue the coaching profession,” stated Linville, who is in her sixth season in her current role at her alma mater. “I am thrilled to have a tradition where our student-athletes and leaders choose to start their careers here with us. Caitlin loved wearing the Delaware uniform as a player and is now excited to share her passion for UD and the game as a coach. We have a talented group of returners Caitlin will enjoy working with and I know that they will be equally thrilled to learn from her in her new role.”
McCartney, the program's all-time draw controls leader at 186, graduated from the University in May with a Bachelor of Science degree in health behavior science. A two-time team captain and four-time team MVP, the midfielder started every game played during her four-year career with the Blue Hens. The 2015 UD Alumni Association Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year, McCartney finished her career sixth in program history with 152 goals and ninth overall with 176 career points. She added 86 caused turnovers, which is good for second all-time.
“Returning to Delaware to help coach is a great opportunity to gain knowledge and experience while I can further my education,” McCartney commented.
McCartney was also a four-time IWLCA All-Mid Atlantic Region honoree and First Team All-CAA selection. The Doylestown, Pa. (Archbishop Wood) native garnered 2012 CAA Rookie of the Year accolades and was a two-time CAA All-Tournament Team honoree.
