MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The University of Delaware field hockey squad came out of the gates blazing and defeated Central Michigan, 10-3, Friday afternoon to open the 2015 season.

The 10 goals scored ties a Blue Hens program record as UD previously scored 10 on Sept. 6, 2009 when Casey Howard tallied five goals to lead Delaware to a 10-2 victory over Brown at Fred P. Rullo Stadium.

Freshman Lisa Giezeman (Leidschendam, The Netherlands/Sin-Maartens College) made her collegiate debut Friday in outstanding fashion by tallying two goals and one assist.

The Blue Hens (1-0) also received two-goal games from juniors Esmée Peet (Zeewolde, The Netherlands/RSG Slingerbos) and Meghan Winesett (Centreville, Va./Westfield) and sophomore Taylor Lister (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin). Peet added an assist on the afternoon for a total of five points.

Jacki Coveleski (Lewes, Del./Cape Henlopen) and Michaela Patzner (Rosenheim, Germany/Karolinen Gymnasium) dished out three and two assists, respectively.

Delaware jumped out to a 3-0 advantage over CMU in the first half before going into the break with a 6-1 lead. The Blue Hens continued to pressure the Chippewas (0-1) and went up, 9-2, with back-to-back goals from Giezeman and Peet with 15 minutes remaining in the game. Peet notched the final score of the day with less than two minutes on the clock.

Sophomore Emmeline Oltmans (Baarn, The Netherlands/Het Baarnsch Lyceum) collected one save for UD.

Kaysie Gregory logged two goals while Maude Stalars posted one goal, one assist and one defensive save for CMU. Sadie Lynn Reynolds collected eight saves with 10 goals allowed in the loss.

HEN SCRATCHINGS
     · Kiki Bink, Lisa Giezeman, Kayla Devlin and Greta Nauck all made their first career starts.
     · Marjelle Scheffers tallied a goal and assist in the win.
     · Lauren Crudele collected her first career goal while Janell Holmes notched her first career assist against the Chippewas.
     · Michaela Patzner moved into fifth place in program history with 22 career assists.
     · Esmée Peet broke into the career Top 20 list and is now 19^th all-time with 64 career points (26g, 12a).
     · Delaware outshot CMU, 22-5, and also held a 4-3 advantage in penalty corners.
     · The Blue Hens are now 3-1 all-time against the Chippewas and have now won two straight.
