UD Men's Golfers Open 2015 Fall Season This Weekend at Navy Fall Classic

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The University of Delaware men's golf team opens its 2015 fall season this weekend when the Blue Hens once again will compete in the Navy Fall Classic.
The tournament features 10 teams including the Blue Hens, three Navy squads, Georgetown, George Mason, LeMoyne, Princeton, Saint Joseph's and Seton Hall. The invitational will again by played on the par 71, 6,528-yard Navy Academy Golf Course, and will feature single rounds on both Sunday and Monday beginning at 8:30 a.m. each day.
Mike KeoghSophomore Jack Gianniny led the team and ranked eighth in a UD single season with a 74.47 average round last year, when he posted a team-high six top-20 finishes and was UD's top performer in four invitationals. Also back is senior captain Kyle Martin, who was named the team's MVP in 2014-15 after ranking third on the squad with a 74.77 stroke average. Martin led the Blue Hens with four top-10 finishes, including a fifth place performance at the CAA Championship.
Sophomore Kieran Purcell was second on the team by averaging 74.63 shots per round during his freshman campaign, when he posted a pair of top-10 finishes, along with classmate Blaine Lafferty who recorded a 76.59 average round. Freshman Mark Benevento, who won the Francis X. Hussey Memorial and Jock MacKenzie Memorial over the summer, will be the Blue Hens' fifth player at tournament.
Following the Navy Fall Classic, UD will return to action on Sept. 19-20 at the Cornell Invitational, before competing in the George Mason Patriot Intercollegiate on Sept. 27-28. After participating in the Binghamton Fall Invitational on Oct. 4-5 and the Elon Phoenix Invitational on Oct. 19-20, the Blue Hens conclude their fall campaign on Oct. 25-27 at the Old Dominion/Outer Banks Invitational.
