Complete Fall Schedule
NEWARK, Del. - The University of Delaware women's lacrosse team will begin their exhibition season this Sunday at No. 17 Johns Hopkins, who is one of the six Top 20 NCAA ranked opponents the Hens will face this fall.
Kateri Linville“In typical fashion, we are scheduled to play the best competition in the country this fall,” Linville said. “We can't wait for our fans to see us play inspired!”
After Hopkins, the Delaware will travel to upstate New York, Sept. 26, for the second year in a row to play No. 25 Cornell and No. 3 Syracuse. The Orange advanced last season to the Final Four, but lost to Maryland in NCAA semifinals, 10-8.
The following weekend will be spent at home against Villanova and LaSalle beginning at noon. The Hens lost to Villanova last year, 11-9, after earning the No. 19 spot in the IWLCA Top 20. The games will be played on the brand-new Delaware Practice Field turf, which is north of Delaware Stadium and behind the Delaware Field House.
UD will then travel on Sat. Oct. 10 to play four games in Annapolis, Md. for the Navy Play Day. Their first contest will be No. 12 JMU, who beat the Blue Hens last season, 10-7, in the CAA semifinals at Delaware Stadium. Delaware will also face Harvard, Louisville and St. Joseph's.
For their final fall play day, the Blue Hens will travel to Penn, Sat. Oct. 17, to face three Top 20 teams for a challenging fall event. To start the day they will face No. 14 Stanford and No. 10 Boston College. BC put together a successful season last spring with a big win over Syracuse, their first in program history. UD will finish the day facing host No. 16 Penn, who defeated UD, 9-7, in a snowy contest last February.
Delaware will return 12 seniors, including IWLCA All-Mid Atlantic Region duo Erin Wein (Middletown, Md. /Middletown) and Casey Lyons (Georgetown, Ontario, Canada/Berkshire).
The Hens will look to improve this fall for their 2016 season in order to advance to the CAA Tournament for the third consecutive year.
