Delaware in Seventh Place After First Day of Cornell Invitational

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The University of Delaware men's golf team sits in seventh place out of 14 squads following Saturday's opening two rounds at the Cornell Invitational.
The Blue Hens fired rounds of 289 and 300 to end the day with a two-round total of 589. Princeton leads the field with a 568 score, while Towson sits in second place at 577.
UD sophomore Jack Gianniny carded a two over par 71-73-144 on Cornell's par 71, 6,904-yard Robert Trent Jones Golf Course, ending the day in 15th place in the individual standings. Senior Kyle Martin, who fired a 71-75-146, and sophomore Kieran Purcell, who recorded a 70-76-146, are each tied for 20th place at four over par.
Freshman Mark Benevento fired an 11 over par 77-76-153 to end the day tied for 42nd place, while sophomore Blaine Lafferty is tied for 67th place after his 16 over par day of 77-81-158.
Jimmy Grem of Towson holds a three-shot lead heading into Sunday's final round with a six under par score of 67-69-136.
The third round of the tournament will begin at 8 a.m. on Sunday.
