Blue Hens Move Up One Spot, Finish Sixth at Cornell Invitational

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The University of Delaware men's golf team carded a 303 round on Sunday to move up one spot and finish in sixth place at the Cornell Invitational.
The Blue Hens finished with a three-round total of 892 to place sixth out of 14 teams at the tournament. Princeton easily captured the team title with an 858 total, while Towson was second at 874 and the host Big Red placed third at 876.
UD senior Kyle Martin enjoyed the lowest round of the day by a Blue Hen as he carded a three over par 74 on Cornell's par 71, 6,904-yard Robert Trent Jones Golf Course, tying for 15th place with a seven over par 71-75-74-220.
Sophomore Jack Gianniny fired a 78 during his final round to end up tied for 20th place at 71-73-78-222, nine over par. Classmate Kieran Purcell, who carded a 76 on Sunday, also tied for 20th place with a 70-76-76-222 during the weekend.
Freshman Mark Benevento tied for 46th place at the invitational with an 18 over par 77-76-78-231, while sophomore Blaine Lafferty recorded a 20 over par 77-81-75-233 to finish in 54th place.
Quinn Prchal of Princeton carded a five under par 72-68-68-208 to post a three-shot victory and earn medalist honors at the tournament.
Delaware returns to action on Sept. 27-28 when the Blue Hens compete in the George Mason Patriot Intercollegiate at Laurel Hill Golf Course in Lorton, Va.
