BURLINGTON, N.C. -- The University of Delaware men's golf team posted rounds of 284 and 289 on Monday to end the first day of the Elon Phoenix Invitational in ninth place.
Gardner-Webb leads the field with a 10 under par 558, while Elon sits in second place at 565 and Presbyterian is third with a 566 score. The Blue Hens' two round total of 573 puts them in ninth place out of 15 squads heading into Tuesday's final round.
UD junior Jack Gianniny fired a two under par 68-72-140 on the par 71, 6,867-yard Alamance Country Club course on Monday, ending the day tied for 18th place. Blaine Lafferty is tied for 25th place with an even par 72-70-142, while Marc Oliveri carded a two over par 72-72-144 to finish the day tied for 40th place.
Mark Benevento is tied for 59th place with his five over par score of 72-75-147, while Kieran Purcell is tied for 70th place with a nine over par 76-75-151.
Jose Montano of North Carolina leads the field with a 10 under par 67-65-132, while Jake Leavitt of Elon sits one shot back.
Tuesday's final round will begin at 8 a.m.
