Jim Sherman. “We got great pitching from Ron Marinaccio. It was an ace performance from him and Colman Vila threw great to close it out. We got timely hitting from Glover, Ake, Liggett, and Patten. I'm really happy for our guys to come out and play so well.”Marinaccio, a sophomore righthander who earned a spot on the Colonial Athletic Association All-Rookie team in 2015, went six strong innings, allowing just four hits and one run and striking out eight Stetson hitters. Vila came in and hurled three hitless innings and struck out four batters to earn the save.
After Stetson (0-1) took a 1-0 lead on a solo home run by rightfielder John Fussell in the fourth inning, Delaware responded with six runs in the sixth to gain control.
Delaware sent 10 batters to the plate during the big sixth inning as leftfielder Jordan Glover knocked in two runs with a double to center, Nick Liggett knocked in a run with a pinch-hit single down the leftfield line, first baseman Nick Patten (at left/Photo Courtesy of Stetson Athletics) brought in a run with a single through the left side, and second baseman Jeremy Ake closed out the inning with a two-run single down the rightfield line.
