BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Mountain Hawks proved to be too much for the Blue Hens Saturday afternoon as Delaware fell to Lehigh, 7-0, at the Lewis Tennis Center.
Lehigh (3-1) picked up the team doubles point, but the Hens (0-5) did not go down quietly. Freshman Blaise Casselbury (Lititz, Pa./Lancaster Country Day School) and junior Tyler Flematti (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood) paired for the 6-2 win over Jack Petersen and Christopher Auteri in No. 2 doubles. The victory served as their first as a team. The win was also the fourth in doubles play for Casselbury and the first for Flematti this year.
Sophomore Colin Wong (Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia/SMK Kota Kemuning) and junior Roy Cheng (Shatin, Hong Kong/Sentinel Secondary School) nearly missed out on giving the Hens the team doubles point with a 7-6 (3) loss to Ricardo Prince and Dylan Karchere-Sun in the third spot.
In singles play, Delaware forced three-sets in the second and fourth flights.
Flematti posted the 4-6, 6-0, 6-2 decision to Bryant Born in No. 2 singles while Casselbury lost to Auteri, 6-1, 6-7 (4), 6-4 in the fourth slot.
“The team showed great character today against a tough Lehigh team. Their attitude was exemplary and all their hard work will soon be rewarded with positive results.”
