LUTHERVILLE, Md. – Facing one of the toughest teams in the nation and using Division III scoring rules, Delaware fell, 9-0, Friday evening to Johns Hopkins at Green Spring Racquet Club.
Currently ranked No. 12 in the Oracle/ITA Division III Men's Rankings, Hopkins (1-0) swept the Blue Hens (0-6) in doubles play. Freshman Blaise Casselbury (Lititz, Pa./Lancaster Country Day School) and junior Tyler Flematti (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood) continued to show well in No. 2 doubles action despite a 9-8 (5) loss to Emerson Walsh and Nicholas Garcia in the second flight.
On the singles' side, freshman Venkatesh Ramkumar (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) forced the lone three-set match of the evening before collecting the 6-2, 3-6, 10-4 defeat at the hands of Scott Thygesen.
“We played a well-coached and deep Johns Hopkins squad and unfortunately came up short tonight. Blaise Casselbury and Tyler Flematti nearly pulled out the win in doubles play while Venkatesh Ramkumar and Colin Wong each competed well in singles.”
