MIAMI, Fla. -- Delaware bounced back from a 5-0 shutout loss to Indiana by posting a 5-4 comeback win over the host Panthers on Saturday during the second day of the FIU Invitational.
During the Blue Hens' (2-2) second game of the day, Delaware trailed FIU 4-3 in the top of the fifth before Mariah Kondravy led off with an infield single and Anna Steinmetz followed with a two-run homer to give UD the lead for good. Blue Hen starter Carolyn Szymanski then fired a scoreless bottom of the fifth, before Kiersten Coffman got the final six outs to record the save.
Szymanski, who earned her first victory of the year, scattered nine hits while allowing four runs in five frames of work. Steinmetz finished 3 for 4 with three RBI, while Kondravy also had three hits and Mattie Nuccio added two.
Steinmetz singled home Nuccio before Kondravy scored on a throwing error as Delaware struck twice in the top of the first inning, but the Panthers (6-2) quickly answered with a pair in the bottom half to knot the game at 2-2. Two consecutive FIU errors in the top of the third allowed pinch runner Morgan Schroll to cross the plate and put the Blue Hens back in front, and after FIU plated two in the bottom half to regain the lead, Steinmetz put UD ahead for good with her blast in the fifth.
In Delaware's opener, the Blue Hens and Indiana (4-4) remained scoreless until the top of the fourth, when the Hoosiers' Taylor Uden belted a three-run homer. Shannon Cawley drilled a solo shot in the fifth before Aimilia McDonough added an RBI double for Indiana to conclude the scoring.
Hoosiers starter Tara Trainer allowed just four hits in six innings of scoreless ball to pick up the win, while Coffman fell to 1-1 for Delaware after giving up five runs on six hits with six strikeouts.
Leanna Gearhart, Nuccio, Lisa Stacevicz and Shelby Jones all singled for the Blue Hens.
Delaware wraps up play at the tournament on Sunday by facing Holy Cross at 10 a.m. and FIU at 12:30 p.m.

• Steinmetz has homered during each of the first two days of her Blue Hen career
• Coffman's save was the third of her career
• Nuccio has six hits this season, which has already surpassed her total from 2015
