Blue Hens Post 13-9 Win at Rutgers

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Senior Kara Dattellas (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) and junior Jamie Schwartz (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) each collected hat tricks Saturday afternoon as Delaware picked up the 13-9 win against Rutgers at High Point Solutions Stadium.
The duo each tallied three goals and one assist on the day for a total of four points while senior Shannon Hawley (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) notched two goals and two assists for the Hens (4-1).
Dattellas finished the day with a team-high four groundballs in addition to two caused turnovers and a draw control.
With an 8-6 lead coming out of halftime, Delaware rattled off five of the next six goals to take the 13-7 advantage. The Scarlet Knights (1-3) were able to capitalize on two 8-meter shots in the remaining 10 minutes for the final 13-9 tally.
Kristina Dunphey guided RU with three goals and an assist to go along with two groundballs, two caused turnovers and a draw controls.
Sophomore Taylor Carpentier (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) registered eight saves in the cage for the Hens while Bianca Dente was credited with the loss for the Scarlet Knights by allowing eight goals with four saves in 24 minutes of play. Devon Kearns finished the game in the net with six saves and five goals allowed.

HEN SCRATCHINGS
· Delaware has started the season 4-1 for the second straight year.
· The Blue Hens have had at least six players tally a goal in each of its five games so far this season.
· UD scored at least 10 goals in all five games, while holding opponents to single digits in each of its wins.
· The Hens have won two straight over the Scarlet Knights and lead the all-time series, 16-11.
· Delaware outshot Rutgers, 28-24.
· The Scarlet Knights held advantages in groundballs (13-10) and draw controls (13-11).
