Blue Hen Men's Golfers Open Spring Season Sunday at Cape Fear Intercollegiate

LELAND, N.C. -- The University of Delaware men's golf team opens its 2016 spring season on Sunday and Monday when the Blue Hens compete in the Cape Fear Intercollegiate hosted by Appalachian State at Cape Fear National Golf Course.
Thirteen teams will compete on the par 72, 6,850-yard course including the Blue Hens, Appalachian State, Duke, Florida Gulf Coast, High Point, La Salle, North Dakota, Nyack College, Robert Morris, South Carolina Beaufort, UNCW, Western Illinois and Western Kentucky. The tournament will feature 54 holes, with two rounds on Sunday and one on Monday.
Delaware competed in six tournaments during the fall season, and won the team title at the Binghamton Fall Invitational on Oct. 4-5. Sophomore Jack Gianniny averaged a team-low 72.75 shots per round, posted a pair of top-10 finishes, and earned medalist honors at Binghamton. Marc Oliveri posted a 74.36 average round while competing in four tournaments, while Kieran Purcell averaged 74.56 strokes per round as he played in all six invitationals.
Blaine Lafferty posted a 75.07 stroke average during the fall season for the Blue Hens, while Kyle Martin recorded a 75.31 average round and Mark Benevento averaged 76.50 shots per round.
Following the Cape Fear Intercollegiate, Delaware will compete in the Middleburg Bank Intercollegiate at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Va. on Mar. 20-22. The Blue Hens will also participate in the Villanova Wildcat Invitational on Mar. 28-29, the East Carolina Invitational on Apr. 4-5, the Greenbrier Invitational on Apr. 10-12, and the CAA Championship on Apr. 22-24 this spring.
