Blue Hen Men's Golfers Finish Ninth at Cape Fear Intercollegiate

LELAND, N.C. -- The University of Delaware men's golf team carded a 306 round on Monday as the Blue Hens opened their 2016 spring season by finishing in ninth place at the Cape Fear Intercollegiate.
Delaware finished with a three-round total of 924 to place ninth out of 13 squads at the tournament. No. 20 Duke captured the team title with an 857 score, while UNCW finished second with an 871 total.
Sophomore Blaine Lafferty had the best round of the day by a Blue Hen, as he fired an ever par 72 on the par 72, 6,850-yard Cape Fear National Golf Course to finish tied for 20th with a nine over par 78-75-72-225. Kyle Martin, who recorded a 77 on Monday, tied for 33rd place at 74-78-77-229, 13 over par.
Kieran Purcell finished with a 15 over par score of 73-79-79-231 to tie for 41st place, while Marc Oliveri finished 64th with a 23 over par 81-80-78-239. Bobby Diforio, playing as an individual, tied for 66th place with a 25 over par 82-81-78-241, while Mark Benevento tied for 71st place with a 26 over par 83-80-79-242.
Patrick Cover of UNCW took home medalist honors with an eight under par 71-68-69-208.
The Blue Hens return to action on Mar. 20-22 when they compete in the Middleburg Bank Intercollegiate at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Va.
