Blue Hens Head To Saint Joseph?s Saturday For 12 Noon Doubleheader

PHILADELPHIA -- The University of Delaware softball team continues its non-conference schedule on Saturday when the Blue Hens take on Saint Joseph's in a 12 noon doubleheader at the SJU Softball Field.
Delaware has won five of its previous six games, including three of four last weekend at the UD Spring Invitational, to improve to 13-7 on the year. The Hawks enter the twinbill with a 7-8 mark, and are coming off a 14-7 win at Seton Hall on Wednesday.
Shelby Jones went 5 for 7 with a home run at the plate for the Blue Hens last weekend, while Hannah George was 4 for 6 and also hit a homer. Anna Steinmetz, Mattie Nuccio and Leanna Gearhart all had five hits to tie Jones for the team lead during the invitational, with Nuccio and Gearhart driving home four runs apiece. Carolyn Szymanski led the UD pitching staff by allowing just one earned run in 13.1 innings of work while posting seven strikeouts.
Delaware currently ranks second in the CAA with a .318 batting average, led by Mariah Kondravy who is hitting .413 with team-highs of 26 hits and 16 RBI.
Kaylyn Zierke leads Saint Joseph's with a .426 batting average, 20 hits, 13 runs scored and four homers, while Brandi Harkness is hitting .370 to go with four homers and a team-high 18 RBI. Madison Clarke is 4-2 with a 2.04 earned run average in the circle for the Hawks, while Anna Lauterbach is 1-2 with a 2.07 ERA.
Saint Joseph's leads the all-time series with the Blue Hens, 12-5, although the teams have not met since the Hawks swept a doubleheader in Philadelphia during the 2013 season.
