LAST TIME OUT
In a battle of two high-powered offenses, Delaware came out on top by defeating Temple, 10-4, Wednesday afternoon at Geasey Field. Coming into the game, the Blue Hens (8-1) averaged 12.88 goals per contest while the Owls posted 14.38 per. Temple (7-2) had scored at least 12 goals in each of the previous seven games and was held to its lowest total since losing to No. 8 Florida, 17-3, on March 28, 2015. Delaware, which has won six straight, was led in scoring by Casey Lyons, who posted her third hat trick of the season with three points to go along with two assists. She added two draw controls and two groundballs in the win. Erin Wein and Devyn Heidelbaugh guided the Delaware defensive unit as Wein caused four Owls turnovers with three groundballs while Heidelbaugh tallied career-highs of four groundballs and three caused turnovers. Taylor Carpentier registered eight saves to move to 8-1 in her first season with the Blue Hens.
HEN SCRATCHINGS 🐔
· Delaware is off to its best start since 2000 when the squad opened the year 9-1.
· The Blue Hens are currently receiving votes in the Inside Lacrosse Top 20 Media Poll and IWLCA Coaches Poll.
· UD has won six straight, the most since 2014 when the Hens posted seven consecutive wins.
· UD has scored at least 10 goals in every game this season and is averaging 12.56 per game, a mark that leads the CAA.
· The Blue Hens are currently 14th nationally with 6.0 assists per game and 12th with a 5.11 scoring margin. Delaware is also 15th in the NCAA with 18.56 points per contest.
· Casey Lyons was named the CAA Player of the Week after totaling 14 points on six goals, eight assists, two groundballs and a caused turnover in two UD wins.
· Lyons is nearing the 100-goal club and has registered 95 during her three-year career with the Hens.
· With five points at Temple, Lyons jumps to 15th in program history with 154 career points. She also currently has 59 assists, a mark good for 10th all-time.
· Lyons currently leads the CAA and is sixth across NCAA Division I standings with 5.0 points per game. The attacker is also third nationally with 21 assists.
· Jamie Schwartz had two streaks halted against the Owls Wednesday as she was held without a goal for the first time in 15 games and without a point in 13.
· Schwartz is also ranked nationally and is 21st with 21 goals and 41st with 26 points.
· Erin Wein is seventh in the NCAA rankings with 2.56 caused turnovers per game.
· Taylor Carpentier is 14th nationally with 7.23 goals allowed per game and 17th with a .496 save percentage.
SERIES INFORMATION
· In the lone meeting between Delaware and Stony Brook, the Blue Hens registered the lowest offensive output in over a year with an 8-4 loss to No. 16 Stony Brook University at Delaware Stadium on April 22, 2014.
· Casey Lyons led UD with two assists and a goal while Erin Wein notched four groundballs and three caused turnovers.
· A coach that has led his team to three straight America East championships and NCAA tournament appearances, Joe Spallina (Adelphi '96) is 69-17 in his fifth season with the Seawolves. Spallina is 142-19 over nine seasons as a head coach after spending four years at Adelphi.
ABOUT NO. 10/11 STONY BROOK
The Seawolves are 3-3 on the year with their losses all coming to Top 20 teams in No. 3/3 Florida, No. 11/13 Northwestern and No. 12/9 USC. Coming off of a three-game road trip, SBU most recently defeated San Diego State, 19-5, as Courtney Murphy scored five goals for the second consecutive game and third time in the last four. Murphy currently leads Stony Brook with 23 goals and two assists for 25 points while Tewaaraton Watch List honoree Kylie Ohlmiller has posted a team-best 11 points to go along with eight goals. Defensively, Alyssa Fleming has registered 13 groundballs and 11 caused turnovers in six games played. Anna Tesoriero has started all six games in the cage for the Seawolves and has allowed 7.34 goals per game with 24 saves.
