LAST TIME OUT
Down 8-3 with 15 minutes remaining, the No. rv/rv Blue Hens rattled off four unanswered goals before they ran out of time Saturday afternoon in an 8-7 loss against No. 10/11 Stony Brook at LaValle Stadium. The loss halted a six-game winning streak and was just the second of the season for Delaware (8-2). The Hens, who were ranked 22nd nationally coming into the game with 12.56 goals per contest, were held to less than 10 goals for the first time this year. Becky Gohsler and Jamie Schwartz tallied two goals for UD while Casey Lyons logged two assists and a goal. Gohsler added a game-high four draw controls, which ties a career-high for the midfielder. Erin Wein led the Blue Hens with four caused turnovers for the second straight game to go along with two groundballs. In the cage, Taylor Carpentier collected four saves in the loss.
HEN SCRATCHINGS 🐔
· Delaware is 6-8 all-time in CAA lid-lifters and 48-48 overall in Colonial Athletic Association history.
· The Blue Hens are currently receiving votes in the Inside Lacrosse Top 20 Media Poll and IWLCA Coaches Poll.
· UD has scored at least 10 goals in all but one game this season and is averaging 12.0 per game, a mark that is good for second in the CAA.
· The Blue Hens are currently 18th nationally with 5.7 assists per game and 13th with a 4.5 scoring margin. Delaware is also 24th in the NCAA with 17.7 points per contest.
· Erin Wein was named the CAA Defensive Player of the Week Monday after posting eight caused turnovers and five groundballs against No. rv/-- Temple and No. 10/11 Stony Brook.
· Wein ranks sixth nationally with 2.7 caused turnovers per game.
· UD's career record holder, Wein has registered 114 caused turnovers all-time in addition to 108 groundballs.
· Casey Lyons is nearing the 100-goal club and has registered 96 during her three-year career with the Hens. Lyons is 14th in program history with 157 career points and 10th with 61 assists.
· Lyons currently leads the CAA and is ninth across NCAA Division I standings with 4.78 points per game and fourth overall with 43 total points. She is also third with 23 assists and fourth with 2.56 assists per game.
· Taylor Carpentier is 16th nationally with 7.31 goals allowed per game and 23rd with a .482 save percentage.
SERIES INFORMATION
· One of the longest rivalries in program history, Saturday's game will be the 49th matchup all-time between the Blue Hens and Tigers.
· UD holds the series advantage at 30-18 after snapping an eight-game losing streak to TU last season with a 6-5 win at Delaware Stadium.
· Towson has won eight consecutive over Delaware at Johnny Unitas® Stadium.
· The Hens last victory at Towson came with a 15-6 win on March 17, 2001 – the team's last season in the America East.
· Sonia LaMonica (Maryland '03) is in her sixth season with the Tigers and has been named the CAA Coach of the Year in four of the last five years. LaMonica is 63-38 overall with Towson and holds an all-time head coaching record of 71-47 after spending one season at Mount St. Mary's.
ABOUT NO. 20/17 TOWSON
The Tigers, who have appeared in five straight CAA title matches, are currently 6-2 on the year after losing back-to-back contests against Top 20 teams in No. 2 Florida (15-7) and No. 16 Penn (7-4). Kaitlyn Montalbano, a 2015 All-CAA Rookie Team selection, leads Towson with 16 points, eight assists and 13 draw controls to go along with 11 groundballs. Defensively, Tianna Wallpher has posted 14 caused turnovers and 16 groundballs in her first season with the Tigers after transferring from UMBC. Angie Benson has started all eight goals in the cage for TU and has registered a 6.82 goals allowed average with .429 save percentage.
