Novice Eights Boat Wins Event as Blue Hen Rowers Compete in Murphy Cup

PHILADELPHIA -- The University of Delaware Novice Eight boat won both its heat and its final race to highlight the Blue Hen rowing team's performance on Saturday at the Murphy Cup on the Schuylkill River.
The Blue Hen Novice Eight crew won its heat with a time of 7:12.29, and then also captured its final event in 7:17.63. Delaware narrowly edged Temple in the final, as the Owls posted a time of 7:17.97.
The Delaware Varsity Four “B” boat finished second out of five schools in its heat with a time of 7:44.28, behind only Navy in 7:28.14. The UD Varsity Four “A” boat placed fifth in its heat by posting a time of 8:37.00.
Delaware's Second Varsity Eight “A” boat came in fourth in its heat in 6:59 41, while the “B” boat placed fifth in its heat by finishing in 7:34.37. The “A” boat advanced to the Petite Final, where the Blue Hens finished second out of six crews with a time of 6:59.60.
The UD Varsity Eight crew was third in its heat in 6:57.25, behind Drexel and Saint Joseph's.
Delaware returns to action on April 9-10 when the Blue Hens compete at the Knecht Cup Regatta on Mercer County Lake in West Windsor, N.J.
