Blue Hens Tied For Second at Wildcat Invitational, Zhang Medalist at GBC Spring Invitational

MALVERN, Pa. -- The University of Delaware men's golf team fired a 298 score on Monday to end the first day of the Villanova Wildcat Invitational tied for second place out of 21 teams.
Wagner leads the field with a 289 score while the Blue Hens, La Salle and Bucknell are tied for second place nine shots back. Villanova and Binghamton are tied for fifth with 299 scores.
UD sophomore Jack Gianniny carded a one under par 70 on the par 71, 7,055-yard course at White Manor Country Club to end the round tied for second place, just one shot off the lead. Gianniny was three under par through 12 holes, and after falling back to even par, closed his round with a birdie on 18.
Kyle Wambold of Binghamton leads the field with a two under par 69 while Gianniny, JP Rafferty of Bucknell and Andrew MacMillan of Villanova are only one shot back.
Marc Oliveri, who is playing as an individual, and Kieran Purcell each recorded a four over par 75 and are tied for 25th place, while Blaine Lafferty is tied for 39th place after carding a five over par 76. Kyle Martin is tied for 51st place after his six over par 77, while Mark Benevento fired an eight over par 79 to end the day tied for 74th place.
Meanwhile Blue Hen freshman Tianlin Zhang competed as an individual at the Goldey-Beacom Spring Invitational at Deerfield Country Club in Newark, and earned medalist honors by carding a three over par 73.
Zhang finished tied with the Lightning's Andre Primeau, but was declared the champion based on his lower score over the final nine holes. The 24-player event featured golfers from West Chester, Chestnut Hill College, Goldey-Beacom, and Dominican College.
