Gianniny Ties For Third, Blue Hens Finish Seventh at Wildcat Invitational

MALVERN, Pa. -- Blue Hen sophomore Jack Gianniny finished in a tie for third place while the University of Delaware men's golf team placed seventh as UD concluded play at the Villanova Wildcat Invitational on Tuesday.
Cleveland State was the team champion by finishing first out of 21 squads with a 593 three-round score, while Lehigh finished second at 599. Delaware entered the day tied for second place after posting a 298 score on Monday, but followed with a 304 total on Tuesday to drop to seventh place.
Gianniny, who finished second at the Wildcat Invitational last year, tied for third this year with a four over par score of 70-76-146 on the par 71, 7,055-yard course at White Manor Country Club. Kyle Wambold of Binghamton was the tournament medalist by finishing at one over par, Andrew MacMillan of Villanova was second at three over par, and Gianniny was one of seven golfers to end up at four over.
Playing as an individual, junior Marc Oliveri fired an eight over par 75-75-150 to finished tied for 19th place.
UD sophomore Kieran Purcell tied for 25th place with a nine over par 75-76-151, while senior Kyle Martin fired a 10 over par 77-75-152 to tie for 37th place. Sophomore Blaine Lafferty tied for 52nd place with an 11 over par 76-77-153, while freshman Mark Benevento carded a 15 over par 79-78-157 to finished tied for 76th place.
The Blue Hens return to action on Apr. 4-5 when they compete in the East Carolina Invitational at Brook Valley Country Club in Greenville, N.C.
