STORY LINE
It's been a while! Welcome back to Delaware Stadium for the first time in nearly a month as the University of Delaware opens Colonial Athletic Association action Saturday against a No. 19 ranked Massachusetts team that has survived a grueling schedule.
The Blue Hens (3-7) are in action here in Newark for the first time since a 23-13 setback on Mar. 5 to a Villanova team that is now No. 5 in the nation. Since then, the Hens defeated Manhattan 6-5 and Binghamton 12-11 in consecutive games before losing its previous two games, road setbacks of 12-7 at Saint Joseph's and 15-11 at Rutgers.
Massachusetts (4-4) enters the game ranked No. 19 in both major polls and is working on a two-game win streak that includes victories of 14-9 over then No. 10 North Carolina on Mar. 12 and 11-9 over then No. 20 Penn State in the most recent outing on Mar. 19. The Minutemen also own wins over No. 11 Ohio State (16-9) and Hartford (11-3) and losses to Army (9-5), No. 7 Brown (15-7), and No. 15 Albany (16-4).
LAST TIME OUT
Delaware made a valiant comeback in the fourth quarter and outscored Rutgers 7-3 in the final stanza, but it wasn't enough as the Hens fell 15-11 to the Scarlet Knights on Mar. 26 at High Point Solutions Stadium. Junior Paul Major and sophomore Dean DiSimone each collected career games for the Blue Hens in the loss. Major registered a career-high five goals, including four in the fourth quarter, on eight shots to go along with two groundballs while DiSimone collected six points on three goals and three assists.
