Blue Hens Return Home This Weekend For CAA Series Against Hofstra

NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware softball team returns home this weekend to host Hofstra in a crucial three-game Colonial Athletic Association series at the UD Softball Stadium.
The Blue Hens and Pride will play a 12 noon doubleheader on Saturday and a 12 noon single game on Sunday, with live stats available for all three contests.
UD enters the weekend with a 24-13 overall record, and is tied for second place in the league standings along with Elon with a 6-3 conference mark. Hofstra currently has a 20-14 overall record, and is tied for fourth in the CAA with a 4-4 mark.
Delaware has been off since last weekend when the Blue Hens took two of three games at UNCW, improving to 9-1 in their last 10 contests. Sophomore shorstop Leanna Gearhart was named the CAA Player of the Week on Monday after batting .400 during UD's five games last week, leading the team with 12 runs scored, 10 stolen bases and four walks. Gearhart leads the league with 35 stolen bases, fifth in Division I and 17 more than any other player in the conference. Delaware has stolen 86 bases this year, ranking 12th in the nation with 2.32 steals per game, while allowing only 25 steals.
Mariah Kondravy continues to lead the Blue Hens with a .375 batting average, 12 doubles and 32 RBI, while Mattie Nuccio is hitting .340 on the year and Gabby Klecko sports a .327 average. Anna Steinmetz has belted 10 home runs on the season, tied for fifth most in the country by a freshman.
Carolyn Szymanski is 9-7 with a 2.38 earned run average to pace the UD pitching staff, while Kiersten Coffman is 15-5 with a 2.90 ERA.
Michaela Transue leads Hofstra and ranks fifth in the CAA with a .367 batting average this year, while Brittany Allocca is hitting .343 and Nikki Michalowski is batting .326 with a team-high 28 RBI. Jessica Peslak has posted a 15-6 record and a 4.38 ERA in the circle for the Pride.
Hofstra leads the all-time series with Delaware, 64-16, and has won the last 27 meetings with the Blue Hens dating back to the 2006 season. The Pride swept a three-game set last year in Hempstead by not allowing a run during the series.
