Delaware Heads To Towson This Weekend For Crucial CAA Series

TOWSON, Md. -- The University of Delaware softball team will play a crucial Colonial Athletic Association series at Towson this weekend as the Blue Hens look to move closer to solidifying a berth in the league tournament.
The Blue Hens and Tigers will play a 12 noon doubleheader on Saturday and a 1 p.m. single game on Sunday at the Tiger Softball Stadium. Live video and stats will be available for all three games at www.towsontigers.com.
Delaware enters the series with a 28-17 overall record, including an 8-7 mark in conference play. The Blue Hens are currently tied for third place in the league standings along with Elon, just a half game behind second place Hofstra. Towson is 31-14 overall, and the Tigers sit in fifth place in the CAA with a 7-7 conference record, only a half game behind the Blue Hens and Phoenix. The top five teams advance to the league tournament on May 10-13 at James Madison, the conference's regular season champion.
Delaware is coming off a doubleheader sweep of Mount St. Mary's on Wednesday, as Mariah Kondravy finished with four hits and three RBI on the day while Leanna Gearhart added three hits, five runs scored and three steals. Kondravy leads the Blue Hens and ranks fourth in the CAA with a .389 batting average, while Gearhart continues to lead the league with 51 runs scored, eight triples and 42 stolen bases.
Gabby Klecko is hitting .331 on the year for UD, while Mattie Nuccio is batting .322 and Anna Steinmetz ranks second in the conference with 11 home runs.
Kiersten Coffman, who picked up a win and a save vs. Mount St. Mary's, is currently 17-6 with a 3.01 earned run average, while Carolyn Szymanski is 11-9 with a 3.02 ERA.
The Tigers are led by Shelby Stracher, who is hitting a league-high .420 on the year while also pacing the conference with 53 RBI and 14 homers. Holiday Cahill is batting .341 for Towson, while Brook Miko has posted a .336 average and a team-best 12 doubles. Ambar Hickman leads the Tigers pitching staff with an 11-5 record and a 2.80 ERA, while Megan Dijter has won a team-best 13 games in the circle.
Delaware holds a slim 57-54 all-time series lead over Towson, as the teams have met during all 40 seasons in the history of UD's program. The Tigers have won five of the previous seven meetings between the schools, and took two of three last year in Newark.
