TOWSON, Md. -- Thanks to some late-inning hitting heroics, the University of Delaware baseball team is still alive in the Colonial Athletic Association playoff hunt.
Down 5-3 after six innings, the Blue Hens scored six runs over the final three innings and posted a 9-6 CAA victory over Towson at Schuerholz Park Saturday afternoon.
The Blue Hens (30-20, 8-12 CAA) bounced back from a 13-inning loss on Friday to move back to within a potential tie for sixth place in the league standings and are just one game behind the fifth place Tigers (19-31, 9-11 CAA) in the league standings.
The two teams will square off in the final game of the three-game set Sunday at 1 p.m. Junior left-hander Kevin Milley (2-0) will take the mound for Delaware with his fourth start of the season.
Delaware, which reached the 30-win plateau for the first time since 2013, scored a run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Diaz Nardo and then took control for good with four runs in the eighth to take an 8-6 lead.
The teams came out strong as Delaware scored twice in the first inning on Nardo's two-out, two-run double and added another run in the second on Mohollen sacrifice fly to knot the score at 3-3. Towson took the 5-3 lead with two runs in the fifth before the Blue Hen bats heated up again in the final innings.
Towson, which committed five errors, got two hits, two RBI, and a home run from shortstop Brady Policelli. Kyle Stricker (5-2) got just one out in the eighth and took the loss for the Tigers.
