Delaware Varsity Eights, Novice Eights Advance To Finals at Dad Vail Regatta

PHILADELPHIA -- The Blue Hen Novice Eights and Varsity Eights boats each advanced to the finals of their respective races to lead the University of Delaware rowing team on Saturday at the Dad Vail Regatta on the Schuylkill River.
The UD Novice Eights won its six-team semifinal on Saturday morning with a time of 7:14.065, edging second place Bucknell by over three seconds. The Blue Hens then finished second out of six boats in the finals with a time of 7:37.949, finishing behind only Army at 7:33.007.
The Blue Hen Varsity Eights placed second out of six boats in their semifinal by posting a time of 6:40.169, and then finished in third place in the final in 7:01.270, following UMass and Drexel.
The Third Varsity Eights finished second in a six-boat finals race by crossing the line in 8:02.633, behind only Bucknell which won the race in 7:50.551. The Junior Varsity Eights also competed in its final race, finishing in sixth place with a time of 8:00.939.
The UD Varsity Fours placed third out of six crews in 7:41.820, behind UMass in 7:29.193 and Lafayette in 7:31.388. The Novice Fours came in fifth during their semifinal by recording a time of 8:27.848.
The Blue Hens conclude their 2016 season on Sunday by competing in the Colonial Athletic Association Championships on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J. at 6 a.m.
