SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Host Syracuse scored a pair of second-half goals just 16 minutes apart and handed the University of Delaware women's soccer squad a 2-0 setback Sunday afternoon at SU Soccer Field.
Delaware (0-2), which opened the season with a 3-2 setback at Villanova Friday night, managed just three shots and two corner kicks in dropping the decision to their Atlantic Coast Conference foes. The score was deadlocked at 0-0 at halftime before Syracuse pulled ahead.
Syracuse (1-0-1), which opened its season Friday with a 1-1 tie with Colgate, got both goals from Alanna O'Neill.

O'Neill scored the only goal the Orange would need when she tallied on a cross pass right in front of the goal from Alex Montagne just eight minutes into the second half. O'Neill scored again at the 69:29 mark when she collected a rebound off a shot that hit the crossbar. Taylor Bennett was credited with the assist.
The Orange held advantages of 18-3 on shots and 14-2 on corner kicks. Delaware junior goalkeeper Kailyn Rekos stopped five shots for the Blue Hens.
Mikala Kin, last year's leading scorer Natalie Zelenky, and Lexi Faulmino each had a shot for the Blue Hens in the first half. Delaware could not get off a shot over the final 45 minutes.
HEN SCRATCHINGS:
• The game marked the first meeting ever between the two schools in women's soccer
• Delaware will return to action Aug. 25 when the Hens continue their season-opening three-game road swing at Georgetown
