Scott Grzenda. “We are a team that needs to be on the field mentally and physically together. After we gave up the two goals we were great again. We were creating and doing things we need to do but we just need to do that for 90 minutes.”The Quakers wasted little time getting on the board as Emily Sands scored her second goal of the season just 10:46 into the game when she fired a shot from 25 yards out into the top right corner of the net above the outstretched arms of UD netminder Kailyn Rekos (two saves).
Sands had a hand in the other Penn score just 15 minutes later when she sent a perfect centering pass in the box to Emma Loving who tapped the ball in for the score.
Delaware got on the board in the final minute of the half when Zelenky scored on the penalty kick, beating Penn goalkeeper Kitty Qu (two saves) to the right side. Zelenky got the opportunity when she was dragged down inside the box.
HEN SCRATCHINGS:
• Delaware has entered halftime with a share of the lead or trailing by just a single goal in all eight games this season
• Zelenky snapped a career-long scoring drought that spanned 11 games back to last season. Her previous longest drought was eight games in 2014. Zelenky now has 20 career goals to rank No. 8 all-time at Delaware with Caryn Blood (2001-03)
• Delaware will continue action Sept. 16 when the Hens close out non-league action at Stony Brook
• Penn defeated Delaware for the third straight time and lead the series by a slim 8-6 margin
