NEWARK, Del. – What a night it was for the Delaware men's soccer team Saturday evening as the Blue Hens kicked off CAA action against William & Mary at Stuart & Suzanne Grant Stadium.
Senior Guillermo Delgado (Tres Cantos, Spain/Jose Luis Sampedro) led off by setting a new school record with 101 career points while classmate Jaime Martinez (below left; Madrid, Spain/American School of Madrid) concluded the evening in dramatic fashion as his second score of the season crossed the goal line as time expired in double overtime.

Delgado, who entered the game in a tie for first all-time in program history with 99 career points alongside Mike Biggs (1968-70), evened the game at 1-1 in the 66th minute to become the first player in Delaware history to reach the 100-point plateau. The score was also the 43rd goal of his career as he sits just behind Biggs' mark of 47.
Martinez assisted on the play and also moved up in the Blue Hens record books as he is now tied for 10th all-time with 12 career assists.
The Hens and Tribe (5-2, 0-1 CAA) remained scoreless for the next 44 minutes of action before sophomore Robert Gillin (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) found Martinez on the right side, who sailed the shot in from 15 yards out as time expired.
Redshirt sophomore goalie Todd Morton (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) collected three saves in the win.
Reilly Maw put William & Mary on the board first with his second goal of the season in the 49th minute. Phil Breno notched nine saves in the loss for the Tribe.
“This was a great and exciting game with a dramatic ending between two really good collegiate teams. I think the quality of finishing at times wasn't there, but overall we did very well tonight. We've played very well this year against some good opposition and now it's all about recovery and getting happy legs and rest.”
[On Guillermo Delgado]: “It's a very special night for our team and Guillermo. He's truly one of a kind. This is a special honor in our 90-year history.”
Senior Guillermo Delgado
“This was an exciting night. Marking your name in history is always great and I have to give thanks to all of the teammates I've had in my four years here. They're the ones who helped me get this record. There really are no words to describe how I'm feeling.”
Senior Jaime Martinez
“We had a great team effort tonight.  We've been working for this since preseason.  Last year we had a couple of overtime losses and it feels great to get this one.”
