Blue Hens Drop Four-Set Match To Penn in Final Non-League Match

NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware volleyball team closed out its non-conference schedule by dropping a four-set match to Penn Tuesday night at the Bob Carpenter Center.
The Quakers, who improved to 5-7 on the year, captured the match by set scores of 25-20, 25-20, 23-25, 27-25. Delaware dropped its second consecutive match while falling to 6-7 on the season.

de hitter Autumn Jenkins led all players with 15 kills and added 18 digs to post her fifth double-double of the season for the Blue Hens, while Alexa Swann added 11 kills and Maria Bellinger (below) recorded her first career double-double with 11 kills and 14 digs.
The first set was tight early on, but after Delaware took a 12-11 lead, the Quakers answered with a 9-3 spurt and led the rest of the way.
Penn then jumped out to a 9-4 cushion in the second stanza, and after the Blue Hens closed within 
21-19, the Quakers took four of the next five points to go in front by two sets.
Delaware led by as many as five points in the third set, and after Penn responded to take a 23-21 lead, the Blue Hens won four straight points, including the final two on kills by Talley and Bellinger, to win its lone set of the night.
UD raced out to an early 8-2 advantage in the fourth set, and had three set points at 24-21 after a Robinson kill. However Penn won the next three points, fought off another set point at 25-24, and took the next two points to seal the victory.
Delaware opens Colonial Athletic Association play on Saturday when the Blue Hens host Towson at 7 p.m. at the Carpenter Center.
