Blue Hens Drop Four-Set Decision To Towson in CAA Opener
9/24/2016 10:23:00 PM | Volleyball
Bonnie Kenny said. “We did that in the early sets, but our offense sputtered in the final two. When we executed tonight we were successful, we just have to get our offense going.”
The first set was a back and forth affair that featured 13 ties and turned out to be the Blue Hens' longest set of the season. Delaware trailed 29-28 after two straight Towson points, but the Blue Hens used two Tigers ballhandling errors and a block by Swann to take early lead.
Towson led by as many as six points in the second stanza, and after Delaware closed within 24-22, a kill by the Tigers' Candace Steadman evened the match at a set apiece. Towson then took the first seven points of the third set, although the Blue Hens finally pulled even at 22-22 following a pair of kills by Jenkins. The teams were still deadlocked two points later, before the Tigers captured the next two points to go up two sets to one.
Towson again jumped in front in the fourth frame by winning the first six points, extended the margin to 11-2, and led by at least seven the rest of the way.
Delaware returns home to host UNCW on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Carpenter Center.
Match Notes:
• Robinson's 13 kills were one shy of her career-high
• Jenkins has posted four double-doubles in her last five matches
• Delaware's 14 blocks tied a season-high
• Hollingsworth dished out a career-best seven assists
• Towson won its sixth straight match in the BCC
• Delaware opened CAA play against Towson for the sixth time in the last seven years
