Brosler's Overtime Goal Lifts Delaware to 2-1 Win Over Northeastern in CAA Opener

Scott Grzenda. “And for us to win it in overtime, when we haven't been quite as lucky this season, shows how hard the girls have been working every day in practice. We have been creating shots all season and tonight we were good enough to have two of them fall in. As long as we can keep creating, we are going to have the chance to win.”
Delaware (2-8, 1-0 CAA) snapped a three-game losing streak while Northeastern (5-5-1, 0-1 CAA), which has won the league title twice in the last three years, had a two-game win streak snapped. The Huskies were earning votes in the NSCAA Top 20 poll earlier this season.
After a scoreless first half, Delaware finally broke the ice in the 10th minute of the second half when senior Mikala Kin (above right) collected a pass from Nikki Adams inside the box and placed her shot to the right side of the net for a 1-0 Blue Hen lead.
That advantage didn't last long as Northeastern tied things at 1-1 just 10 minutes later when Hannah Lopiccolo turned and fired a shot from 25 yards out past Delaware goalkeeper Kailyn Rekos after collecting a pass from Kayla Cappuzzo.
Both teams had chances to score the rest of the way but neither could to send the game into overtime. Delaware wasted little time in picking up the win in the extra period as Vassallo made a long pass to a wide-open Brosler down the right side of the field. Brosler beat her defender and fired the winning shot past NU keeper Nathalie Nidetch for the game-winner.
“It was unbelievable,” said Brosler of her second career game-winning goal. “We worked hard the entire game. I missed a breakaway earlier and after that, in my head, I knew we were going to win this. When the shot went into the back of the net I started bawling my eyes out. I've never been that happy. We finally let our past games (this season) go. We are 0-0 and we just said lets just go for it.”
