NEWARK, Del. – It was a tale of two halves Saturday evening at Stuart & Suzanne Grant Stadium as Delaware used second half power to cruise to a 4-0 CAA win over Northeastern.
Tied 0-0 at halftime with a 6-2 advantage in shots, Delaware shifted the momentum in the second period. The Hens (7-2, 2-0 CAA) tallied 13 shots to just another two for the Huskies (2-6, 1-1 CAA) while picking up four goals and six corner kicks.
Graduate student Ben Sampson (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury) registered a career-best two goals, including the game-winner in the 60th minute. Classmate Thomas de Villardi (Vincennes, France/Lycee Notre-dame Guingamp) tied a career-mark by collecting the assists on both plays.

Redshirt sophomore goalie Todd Morton (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) picked up two saves for his seventh win of the year.
Jonathan Thuresson was credited with the loss despite four saves. NU played the final 12 minutes of the match with 10 men after Chris Scatterday was sent off during the 79th minute following a second yellow card.
Ian Hennessy“I'm very pleased with the lads' performance today, particularly in the second half. Northeastern was very hard to break down early on and they deserve a lot of credit for making us work for the win. We had a great crowd at Grant Stadium tonight and I hope they enjoyed some terrific soccer in a good conference win for UD.”
Senior Ben Sampson
[On importance of team win]: “We've had a lot of home games recently and it's really important to pick up conference points on our own turf. Down the stretch, it's going to be tough to get those points on the road. This was a great game for us. It puts us at the top of the table, which is right where we want to be at this point in the season.

[On career day]: “As a center back, I don't get in the box very often, so when I do I try to make the most of it and put myself in a good position. I was in the right spot at the right time to put the ball in the back of the net for both goals.”
[On great crowd]: “It's fantastic to get the local youth teams out here and have the entire community be involved in our games. We also appreciate the students and general public that came out to see us and it's really awesome to see them all be excited for us.”
