GAME PREVIEW
Delaware plays yet another doubleheader at Delaware Stadium Saturday as the Blue Hen men take on first-time opponent Monmouth University followed by the Delaware women playing host to Rutgers University following at 3 p.m.
Delaware (1-2) will be looking to bounce back from an 11-5 setback to then No. 17 Navy here at Delaware Stadium last Saturday. After falling behind 7-1 in the first half, the Blue Hens battled back and pulled to within 7-4 midway through the third quarter. But the Mids scored four of the next five goals to preserve the win.
Delaware was led once again by freshman scoring sensation Charlie Kitchen, who netted two goals and dished out an assist. Joe Eisele, Will Hirschmann, and Matt Olbrich also scored for the Hens. The loss to Navy followed a big 18-5 win at Mt. St. Mary's Feb. 11 in which Trupert Ortlieb led Delaware with a career-high six goals.
Monmouth (2-1), a fourth-year program playing as members of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, opened with a 12-10 upset over No. 16 Villanova and followed with an 11-9 setback at Hofstra, and a 10-8 victory over Wagner on Tuesday. Monmouth jumped out to a 4-0 lead but Wagner battled back to tie the score at 7-7 with 8:57 left.
The Hawks then scored three straight goals, two of them man-up, to take control. Tyler Keen led Monmouth with three goals while Eamon Campbell and Chris Daly each scored twice and Bryce Wasserman dished out three assists.
