Delaware Men’s Basketball Falls To Elon, 81-59, in Regular Season Finale

Martin Ingelsby said. “They have a lot of weapons, and we didn't do a good job of guarding the three-point line in the opening half. We lost control of the game in the middle of the first half, and could never really get back into it. We just didn't have enough offensive firepower, and missed too many free throws in the second half.”
Delaware led for the first nine minutes of the game, and was still down just a point at 22-21 after a follow by Carter at the 7:28 mark. However Elon erupted for an 11-point spurt over the next three and a half minutes, going in front by 12 on a Santa Ana three-pointer.
Carter ended with the run with another bucket, while a late layup by Daly cut the Phoenix margin to 40-29 at the break.
Elon's lead stayed between eight and 13 points through the first 10 minutes of the second half, before Chivarsky Corbett drilled a three-pointer and Carter added a basket to bring the Blue Hens within 54-47 with 9:27 to play. However Brian Dawkins answered with a layup before Thompson added five points to push the margin back to 14, and Delaware did not get within single digits the rest of the way.
The Blue Hens will be the ninth seed in next week's CAA Tournament, and will face eighth-seeded Hofstra on Friday at 6 p.m. in the first round at the North Charleston Coliseum.
Game Notes:
• Daly reached double figures for the ninth straight game, the second longest streak by a UD freshman (Devon Saddler, 13 in 2010-11)
• The Phoenix held a 42-36 rebounding advantage
• Delaware handed out just five assists, tying a season-low
• Elon improved to 6-1 all-time vs. Delaware and avenged a 76-74 overtime loss to the Blue Hens on Feb. 9 in Newark
• The Phoenix is now 3-0 against Delaware in Alumni Gym
