Delaware Women’s Golfers in Eighth Place After First Day of Kiawah Island Classic

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. -- The University of Delaware women's golf team fired a 10 over par score of 298 on Sunday as the Blue Hens ended the first day of the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic in eighth place out of 43 squads.
Jacksonville leads the field with a 286 score during its opening round, while Coastal Carolina and tournament host College of Charleston are tied for second at 289.
Blue Hen freshman Ariane Klotz fired an even par 35-37-72 on the par 72, 5,964-yard Osprey Point course to end the day tied for 16th place, while senior Grace Chua is also tied for 16th place after she carded an even par 36-36-72.
Playing as an individual, freshman Josefina Fernandez-Davila posted a three over par 37-38-75 as she finished the round in a tie for 53rd place. Senior Vitoria Teixeira, who fired a five over par 39-38-77, and sophomore Valentina Mueller, who also shot a five over par 39-38-77, are each tied for 78th place in the standings. Sophomore Ashley Dingman sits in a tie for 164th place after she carded a 10 over par 42-40-82 on Sunday.
The Blue Hens will play the par 72, 5,901-yard Oak Point course during the tournament's second round on Monday.
