NEWARK, Del. – For the second time this season, Delaware held an opponent to 40 points as the Blue Hens defeated UNCW, 57-40, at the Bob Carpenter Center Friday evening.
The victory marks the sixth straight for UD, which improves to 13-8 on the year and 7-2 in CAA action. Earlier this season, the Hens held St. Bonaventure to 40 points in a 43-40 win on November 19.
Senior Erika Brown (Paterson, N.J./John F. Kennedy) led Delaware with 13 points while sophomore Nicole Enabosi (at left; Gaithersburg, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) registered 12 points and game-highs of nine rebounds, six assists, two blocked shots and two steals.
The Blue Hens held the Seahawks to just 10 total first half points as UNCW shot 4-29 from the floor (.138).
Jasmine Steele guided UNCW (8-13, 3-7 CAA) with 15 points. Rebekah Banks added a team-best seven rebounds.
“I feel like the team is really beginning to grasp and understand what we're trying to do on the defensive end. We've also done a much better job executing on the offensive end and knowing when we have something and when we don't. As long as we continue to communicate like we have been doing, we'll be in good shape.”
Senior Erika Brown
“We've been playing really well as a team lately and I think that's been key to our success. Every game that we have left is big and it doesn't matter who we play. Being up by a lot doesn't mean anything because a team can easily turn it around and make a comeback. We've done that against opponents, so you need to stick with the game plan and play hard no matter the score. You can't let up just because you're winning.”
