Binghamton jumped out to a 3-1 lead after one quarter but the Hens rallied back in the second quarter as Ortlieb scored twice, the second time with 24 seconds left to send the game into halftime tied 4-4. The Bearcats scored the first three goals of the second half, two on extra-man situations, to take a three-goal lead before a tally by UD's Kitchen with nine seconds left in the third period cut the margin to 8-7.
But Binghamton scored four times in the first seven minutes of the final quarter, including one on a man-up opportunity, to take control and hold on for the win.
HEN SCRATCHINGS:
• Delaware entered the game averaging 12.4 goals per game and had a streak of four straight games with 10+ goals snapped, its longest streak since 2010-11
• Blue Hen sophomore Andrew Romagnoli scored a third quarter goal to extend his point-scoring streak to 12 straight games
• Kitchen has scored at least two points in every game this season, extending his UD freshman record
• The Hens have now committed 10 or less turnovers in three straight games
• Hens continue their four-game homestand next Saturday, March 18, when Delaware hosts Saint Joseph's at 1 p.m.
