Blue Hen Men’s Golfers Finish in 14th Place at Kingsmill Intercollegiate

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- The University of Delaware men's golf team carded its lowest round of the tournament with a 293 score on Tuesday as the Blue Hens finished in 14th place out of 22 squads at the season-opening Kingsmill Intercollegiate.
Delaware, which posted rounds of 314 and 298 on the first two days of the tournament, finished with a three-round total of 905. Tennessee was the team champion with an 850 score, while Penn State finished one shot back.
Blue Hen junior Jack Gianniny shot a one under par 69 during his final round on the par 70, 6,778-yard River Course at Kingsmill Resort, tying for 51st place with a 14 over par score of 77-78-69-224. Classmate Blaine Lafferty carded a 75 on Tuesday, as he tied for 62nd place with a 17 over par 79-73-75-228.
UD senior Marc Oliveri also tied for 62nd place with a 17 over par 81-75-71-227, following his one over par 71 during the final round. Sophomore Mark Benevento tied for 74th place with a 19 over par 78-73-78-229, while junior Kieran Purcell fired a 27 over par 80-77-80-237 to finish in a tie for 101st place.
Clark Robinson of Marshall, Cole Miller of Penn State, and Ryan Dornes of Penn State were crowned individual champions as all three players finished at one under par.
The Blue Hens return to action on Mar. 27-28 when they compete in the Villanova Wildcat Invitational at White Manor Country Club in Malvern, Pa.
