GAME PREVIEW
It will be a festive day at Delaware Stadium Saturday as Delaware (6-3), winners of five of its last six games, takes on an undefeated Rutgers team (8-0) that enters the game ranked No. 1 in the nation in the Maverik Media Poll and No. 3 in the USILA Coaches poll.
The game ends a four-game homestand for the Blue Hens and is also the final non-league game of the year before Delaware, which earned Top 20 votes in the USILA poll this week for the first time since 2013, begins Colonial Athletic Association play next Saturday at UMass.
The Blue Hens will be wearing pink uniforms today as part of Pink Day and Breast Cancer Awareness and Delaware will also honor the memory of Gary Celeste and Milt Roberts.
Roberts was the co-founder of the UD program and served as the Blue Hens' head coach in 1950-57. Roberts, who passed away in 1991, is a member of the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame, Delaware Sports Museum and Hall of Fame, and the UD Athletics Hall of Fame. A game MVP Award named in his honor will be presented at the end of the game.
Delaware will also honor the memory of Celeste, a former UD student and lacrosse fan for whom UD scholarships is named. Celeste was tragically killed by a stray bullet while walking to a Delaware lacrosse game in 1976. Since 1988, family and friends have presented the Gary Celeste Memorial Award to a Blue Hen player who has demonstrated dedication, enthusiasm, and commitment to the program. This year's award winner is senior defender Anthony Sebastiani from Moorestown, N.J.
