Blue Hens Finish Third, Oliveri and Diforio Sixth at Wildcat Invitational

MALVERN, Pa. -- The University of Delaware men's golf team shot a 289 on Tuesday as the Blue Hens finished in third place out of 19 squads at the Villanova Wildcat Invitational.
Delaware, which posted a 284 during Monday's opening round, finished with a five over par score of 573, four shots off the school record for a 36-hole tournament. Lehigh captured the team title with a 570 total, followed by Cleveland State at 572 and the Blue Hens.
UD senior Marc Oliveri carded a two over par 73 during his second round on the par 71, 7,055-yard White Manor Country Club course, as he tied for sixth place in the individual standings with an even par 69-73-142. Bobby Diforio, playing as an individual, fired a 72 on Tuesday to also finish tied for sixth with an even par 70-72-142.
Jack Gianniny tied for the lowest round of the day by a Blue Hen with an even par 71, finishing in a tie for 13th place at 72-71-143, one over par. Kieran Purcell also tied for 13th place at the tournament with a one over par 69-74-143.
Blaine Lafferty tied for 35th place with a six over par 74-74-148 while Mark Benevento, who also tied for UD's low round of the afternoon with an even par 71, tied for 35th place as well at 77-71-148. Playing as an individual, Jack Melville carded a 13 over par 78-77-155 to finish in a tie for 80th place.
Patrick Luth of Cleveland State, Johnny Hsu of Lehigh, and Connor Daly of Villanova each tied for first place with three under par 139 scores.
Delaware returns to the course this weekend to compete in The Manor Intercollegiate at The Manor Golf Course in Farmville, Va. on Saturday and Sunday.
