Delaware Men’s Golfers in Sixth Place After First Day of Rhode Island Invitational

NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. -- The University of Delaware men's golf team fired rounds of 303 and 301 on Monday to end the first day of the Rhode Island Invitational in sixth place out of 14 squads.
The host Rams lead the field with a two-round score of 580, while Bryant sits in second place at 591 and Fordham is third with a 593 score. Drexel is fourth at 597, followed by Wagner at 601 and the Blue Hens at 604.
UD junior Kieran Purcell carded a three over par 72-75-147 on Monday on the par 72, 6,670-yard Quidnessett Country Club course, ending the day tied for 12th place in the individual standings. Marc Oliveri is tied for 25th place with a seven over par 75-76-151, while Bobby Diforio is tied for 38th place with a nine over par 77-76-153.
Jack Gianniny shot a 10 over par 80-74-154 to finish the day tied for 41st place, while Blaine Lafferty is tied for 47th place with an 11 over par 79-76-155.
Dawson Jones of Rhode Island is the tournament leader after he carded a two under par 75-67-142, while Corey Long of Saint Bonaventure is one shot back.
The final round of the tournament will begin with an 8 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday.
