Delaware played No. 8/7 Princeton nearly straight up for the first 30 minutes, but the host Tigers dominated the second half and downed the Blue Hens, 16-4, Sunday afternoon at Sherrerd Field at Class of 1952 Stadium. UD, playing its second straight Top 10 opponent, jumped out to a 3-2 lead in the first 14 minutes, but Princeton scored the final three goals of the first half to take the 5-3 lead at the break. The Tigers tallied the first nine goals of the second half and outscored the Hens, 11-1, in total to take control. Becky Gohsler led Delaware with a career-high five draw controls to go along with three ground balls, two caused turnovers and a goal. Chantae Simms contributed a career-best four ground balls in addition to two caused turnovers and one draw control for the Hens while goalie Taylor Carpentier posted 10 saves, five ground balls and three caused turnovers.
· Delaware will be featured on April 14 as the CAA Game of the Week on Lax sports Network as the Blue Hens play at William & Mary.
SERIES INFORMATION 💪
· Delaware leads the all-time series, 19-11, over Hofstra since the inaugural matchup in 1979.
· A perennial pairing, the two teams have faced off in each of the last 21 seasons.
· The Blue Hens have won three of the last four against the Pride.
· Each of the last four games between the Hens and Hofstra were settled by a total of five goals.
· Last season, Delaware rebounded from a seven-goal deficit in Hempstead to defeat Hofstra, 14-13, in overtime at James M. Shuart Stadium on April 17.
· In the last matchup at Delaware Stadium, the Pride held on for the 6-5 victory on April 10, 2015.
· Shannon Smith (Northwestern '12), a three-time First Team lacrosse All-American who is among the most decorated players in the sport, is now in her fifth season as the head coach at Hofstra. Smith is 39-40 during her tenure. ABOUT HOFSTRA 🦁
· The Pride has won four straight and is currently 6-3 entering weekend play. Hofstra travels to Drexel Friday to kick off CAA action.
· Most recently, HU picked up the 10-8 victory over Columbia. Sophomore Maddie Fields posted a career-high 15 saves, while junior Drew Shapiro notched a career-best four goals.
· Fields has played 516 minutes in the cage for HU and has registered all six wins in addition to a 10.22 GAA and .466 save percentage.
· A four-time CAA Rookie of the Week, Alyssa Parrella leads the Pride with 45 points on 27 goals and 18 assists to go along with 33 draw controls. She is also second on the team with 19 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers.
· Junior Shea McAvoy has posted team-high totals of 26 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers.
