Eight Blue Hens Honored with Postseason CAA Accolades

RICHMOND, Va. – Eight Blue Hens garnered All-Conference accolades, as voted on by the league's head coaches and announced by the Colonial Athletic Association Thursday afternoon.
The eight awards mark the most-ever for Delaware as members of the CAA and most since 1998 when Delaware was a part of the America East Conference.
Junior Becky Gohsler (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) led the way with All-First Team honors for the first time in her career.
The CAA also honored senior co-captains Mary Abram (Wilmington, Del./Ursuline) and Coley Ricci (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) in addition to junior goalie Taylor Carpentier (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) with Second Team accolades.
Additionally, freshmen Mia DeRuggiero (Baltimore, Md./Sparrows Point), Christine Long (Mendham, N.J./Mendham) and Sydney Rausa (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) were named to the All-Rookie Team.
Sophomore Maura McNutt (Millstone Township, N.J./Allentown), a nursing major, was recognized for her work in the classroom as an All-Academic Team awardee.
Gohsler is currently fourth in the CAA with 2.53 goals per game and leads the Hens with 43 points on 34 goals and nine assists to go along with 38 draw controls, 33 ground balls and 26 caused turnovers. A two-time CAA Player of the Week, the midfielder is fourth in program history with 100 career draw controls.
Abram earns CAA recognition for the first time in her career and is having a career year in her final season in a Delaware uniform. Entering weekend play, the defender has registered 32 draw controls, 27 ground balls and 17 caused turnovers while starting all 16 games for the Blue Hens.
Ricci, a Preseason All-CAA Honorable Mention selection, is also receiving postseason accolades for the first time as she has produced 36 draw controls, 19 caused turnovers and 18 ground balls to go along with 16 goals and seven assists.
Carpentier earns a Second Team nod in back-to-back seasons in the cage for UD. The goalie is second in the CAA with an 8.48 GAA, fourth with a .458 save percentage and fourth with 6.88 saves per game.
DeRuggiero, a two-time CAA Rookie of the Week, recorded 16 points (9g, 7a) with 14 ground balls, seven caused turnovers and six draw controls during regular season action. Long tallied 22 points (19g, 3a) with 15 ground balls and six draw controls while Rausa finished third for the Hens with 25 points on 12 goals and 13 assists in addition to 13 ground balls, six draw controls and five caused turnovers.
Haley Warden (James Madison) was named the 2017 CAA Player of the Year while Dukes head coach Shelley Klaes-Bawcombe garnered Coach of the Year accolades. Olivia Conti (Towson) was tabbed the Defensive Player of the Year while Hofstra's Alyssa Parrella wrapped the honors as the Rookie of the Year selection.
Delaware returns to the CAA Tournament for the first time since 2015 this Friday as the fourth-seeded Blue Hens take on top-seeded James Madison with a 4 p.m. draw.
