Welcome to the seventh installment of This is How I Train.
Every Tuesday (Wednesday this week) and Thursday during the preseason, we will feature a member of the Blue Hen football team and learn a little more about what motivates them to excel.
Today we meet Blaine Woodson, a senior defensive tackle and a two-time All-Colonial Athletic Association who anchors a talented and experienced defensive front.
BLAINE WOODSON
Senior • Defensive Tackle • Stroudsburg Pa. • Stroudsburg HS • HRIM Major
Time Flies When You're Having Fun: "It's crazy. You look back, and from coming in with the guys I came in with during that first summer session and now I am a senior. It goes fast. I can't believe it."
What's in Store for 2017: "For this team, we are looking to win the conference title and compete in the playoffs and hopefully get a shot at a national championship. I would love to play at the next level, so hopefully I will have a very good season this year and help the team win. I would love to be an All-American and all-conference player."
Home Improvement: "I know I have to improve all-around and in every area. I have to lock in and be real intense on the field and get after it, rush the passer and stop the run."
Fun Bunch: "We (defensive line) are a cohesive group and we all push other. I don't think there is any one of us on the defensive line who hasn't played except for the freshmen, of course. Of our starting three (Woodson, Bilal Nichols, and Cam Kitchen), we have all played and we know what to expect. Even our backups have played a lot. It's a great group and it's a fun group to be a part of. We do a lot together, joke around, pick on each other. I would say Cam (Kitchen) is the ringleader, but I am a close second."
Why Number 73?: My oldest brother (Brandon) wore No. 72 and my middle brother (Anton) wore No. 74 so I split the difference. I wore 59 in high school but when I got here Vince Hollerman had that number. So it made sense to wear No. 73."
Budding Restauranter: "I am a hotel, restaurant, and institutional management (HRIM) major. Eventually I would like to open up my own restaurant, not a mom and pop place, but a franchise. I love to cook and I cook a lot during the season. I can cook everything to be honest. I like seafood best and lobster is my favorite but I like steak, too. I haven't made a lot of exotic things but I've eaten a lot of exotic things. I've had shark, rabbit, venison, even alligator."
