Delaware Picked Fourth in CAA Preseason Poll; Two Blue Hens Recognized

RICHMOND, Va. –The University of Delaware women's lacrosse team had two players honored while the Blue Hens were selected to finish fourth in the Colonial Athletic Association in the league's preseason voting, as decided upon by the conference's head coaches.
Seniors Taylor Carpentier and Becky Gohsler were picked as All-CAA Preseason Team selections.
A two-year starter between the pipes for the Hens, Carpentier was an All-CAA Second Team and CAA All-Tournament Team honoree in 2017. She led the CAA and finished sixth nationally with an 8.62 GAA and was also second in the conference with a 46.4 save percentage. Carpentier enters her senior campaign ranked second in the Blue Hens career record books with a 7.96 GAA and 10th with 238 saves.
An IWLCA All-Mid Atlantic Region Second Team selection a year ago, Gohsler also collected All-CAA First Team, CAA All-Tournament Team and UD Alumni Association Team MVP accolades in 2017. The midfielder led Delaware in eight statistical categories (points, goals, ground balls, draw controls, free position goals, shots, shots on goal and caused turnovers) and ranked 22nd nationally with 2.07 caused turnovers per game. Gohsler is fourth in program history with 105 career draw controls and the team's active career leader with 80 points, 66 goals, 14 assists and 69 ground balls in 49 games played.
James Madison's Haley Warden was chosen as the CAA Women's Lacrosse Preseason Player of the Year.
The defending CAA champion JMU Dukes were picked to finish atop the league standings in 2018 by earning six first place votes for a total of 36 points. Last season's championship runner-up, Towson, collected one first place vote and 31 points to finish in second.
Elon registered 24 points and is slated to place third for the upcoming year while the Hens received 21 points for the fourth place slot.
Hofstra (16) was fifth while Drexel (11) and William & Mary (8) rounded out the standings in sixth and seventh places, respectively.
Delaware begins the 2018 campaign by traveling to Penn for a 3 p.m. contest on Saturday, February 17. The Blue Hens open their home slate at Delaware Stadium on Wednesday, February 21 against La Salle.
