Blue Hens Kick Off ITA Atlantic Regional at Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Delaware had two successful showings Thursday in the qualifying singles round on the first day of the ITA Atlantic Regional, hosted by Virginia Tech at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
Sophomore Guilherme Valdoleiros opened the day with a 6-1, 5-3, ret. victory over Duquesne's Dane Bendel before topping James Madison's Josh Raymundo, 7-6 (7), 6-1.
Junior Laurenz Lankes advanced with a 6-3, 6-2 decision against Richmond's Josh Keitelman and a 6-4, 6-4 win against Georgetown's Cesar Cernuda.
Friday's action will feature one round of singles and three rounds of doubles.

"It was very exciting to see Laurenz [Lankes] and Gui [Valdoleiros] play two tough matches to qualify into the main draw. They really played lights out and gave it everything they had to come out with two very good wins. Blaise [Casselbury] and Curran [Verma] also competed well but came out short at the end. Overall, this was a great day in the office for us."
