TOWSON, Md. – Freshman Pia Freudenberger knocked in the game-winner with less than two minutes remaining in regulation Friday afternoon as the No. 18 Blue Hens defeated Towson, 2-1, at Johnny Unitas Stadium.
With the win, the Hens improve to 9-6 on the year and 3-0 in the Colonial Athletic Association.
Senior Michaela Scanlon posted Delaware's first goal of the afternoon in the 31st minute to tie things at 1-1. The forward found room in front of Towson goalie Mackenzie Peacock and was able to get the shot in to the right side of the net. The tally was the third of the season for Scanlon, who missed six games earlier this year with a broken hand.
In the 69th minute, Freudenberger had an open look from just inside the circle and put it past Peacock on the right side for her fourth score of her early career.
Freshman Lizzie Gaebel started her third game of the season for the Blue Hens and finished with one goal allowed and no saves.
Abby Webster posted the lone goal of the day for the Tigers (1-14, 0-4 CAA) while Peacock finished with four saves between the pipes.
